Your ads are working when each sale leaves you money

Owners ask, “how do you know if they're actually working?” Here is a plain answer: what each sale leaves you after the work, the ads, the agency fee, overhead and tax.

Free calculator, about a minute. Your written profit report, from $297, does it channel by channel.

Your ads report can show every number up while each sale loses money

  1. Revenue, not profit

ROAS (return on ad spend) is sales divided by ad spend. It leaves out the fee, the job's costs and tax, so it can climb while each sale loses money.

  2. Fee and budget rise together

Many agencies charge a percentage of spend, so a bigger budget means a bigger fee. One check: what each booked job cost, fee included.

  3. Conversions outrun jobs

A conversion is whatever the platform is told to count. Double counts and junk leads push it far past booked jobs, and the platform buys more of the wrong thing.

  4. Every channel claims the sale

Google, Meta, Yelp and the rest can each count the same job, so together they report more sales than you made.

What your report looks at

You give view-only access, or exported reports. We change nothing in your accounts.

  • Is each sale making or losing money?
  • How many paid leads became booked jobs?
  • Is anything counted twice?
  • Which channel really earned the sale?
  • Which spend never turns into jobs?
  • What did the platforms change on their own?
  • Does the invoice match the platforms' charges?
  • Who owns the account and the data?

In depth: Google, Local Services Ads, Microsoft, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Yelp, Angi, Thumbtack and Nextdoor. Anything else with an invoice gets the profit test.

Questions worth asking your agency

Free to use. They help you and your agency see what pays.

  1. What did each booked job cost us, fee included?
  2. How many reported leads became booked jobs?
  3. Which conversions do we optimize for? Any counted twice?
  4. When two channels claim the same sale, who gets credit?
  5. How much went to Display, partner sites or Performance Max?
  6. What did the platforms change on their own this quarter?
  7. Does your invoice match what the platforms charged?
  8. If we left, would we own the account and the data?

Why we know where to look

We run ad accounts too. So we know where the money leaks.

The same team manages paid ads day to day. We've seen the settings that drift, the leads counted twice and the sales every channel claims.

We're judged on the same things agencies are. So your profit report gives your agency a plan it can use. Same written rules, whoever runs your ads.

Fair questions

Can't my agency do this?

Agency reports usually show platform numbers, like ROAS. Your profit report adds profit per sale, the tracking you should have, your targets and a cut, fix or scale list.

Will my agency mind?

It shows them, in dollars, where more budget pays. That helps them too.

Can an agency order one?

Yes. Pick "An agency" in the form and tell us who gets the report.

What if my ads are fine?

Then your report says so, plainly, with the numbers. That is a real answer, so it is not a reason for a refund.

What do you need from me?

View-only access or exported reports, your last three invoices, sales by channel, and last year's profit and loss.

Is this a pitch for your agency?

No. Running one is how we know where to look. The cut, fix or scale list works with any agency.
